A Glance At Our Era

Mu'awiyah (RA) said it so beautifully and disturbingly that
"Ma'arufu zamanina munkaru zamani qad mada' wa munkaruhu ma'arufu zamani lam ya'ti" What we consider noble in out time was considered a sin and vice in the previous nations and what we consider as a vice today will equally be considered as noble in the nations to come".

We are living in an era wherein falsehood is being promoted and the voice of truth is being suppressed.

We are living in an era wherein the oppressed is far from being called the victim and the tyrant is far from being called an oppressor

We are living in an era wherein negative actions like the killings of Muslims in Burma, Afghanistan, Iraq are justified and reactions are criticized

We are living in an era wherein the murderer is oblivious of why he embarks on that action and the murdered knows-not why he's being killed.

We are living in an era wherein identifying with ANY religion as an ardent believer is seen as an act of extremism and shamelessness is being held as the crux of 21st century civilization.

We are living in an era wherein the one who could not illegally enrich himself as a public officer is seen as a lunatic and the executive thieves are being celebrated.

We are living in an era wherein every Muslim has turned into a self-acclaimed scholar and the result is a social and spiritual eclipse.

We are living in an era wherein people identify more with their friends than their parents simply because the friends are richer. This spells doom.

We are living in an era wherein filthy, dirty 'celebrities' are being idolized and the Prophets of Allaah and pious men are being mocked at.

We are living in an era wherein Muslims talk much about the personality of the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) yet are ashamed to identify with his appearance.

We are living in an era wherein people cannot withstand the prosperity Allaah has brought on others never mind wishing them success.

We are living in an era where people delay their salat to attend to worldly issues and prefer to please the creation rather than the Creator.

We are living in an era wherein thieves, thugs and rogues are loitering around in the corridors of power and the God-conscious ones are left to wander on the street.

We are living in an era wherein the lower appetites (lusts and lowly desires) need to be kept in check by the impregnable bulwark of the intellect.

And unarguablly we can say that the causative effects of such attitudes can be thus summarised as  lawlessness, injustice, economic backwardness, insecurity, moral decline and absence of natural standards.

My intellectual superior says, this could be described as the re-emergence of the Jahiliya period.

We need to start a process of personal ethical re-orientation to emerge as a people whose personal discipline and determination will spur them to go against the indiscipline and overwhelming delinquency prevalent in the society.

Allaah save one and all.
